Hi Chris
My name is Amy, I live in Sacramento, California with my English husband Mark. This is a totally random request, something I would never normally do, but when I heard you were playing in San Francisco in April it was something I just had to try!
My husband is a lifelong Madness fan (massive understatement!!). His first gift to me when we met was a Madness CD!!! He always told me how, when he was a teenager, he was devastated when you originally broke up….and even more devastated when his older brother played the trumpet at some of your concerts in the early eighties, never told him, didn’t get an autograph for him, and just showed him a picture he had taken with Suggs at the time!!!!! When he worked at a summer camp here in the nineties I guess he played Madness constantly, and remains infamous for monopolizing the camp stereo playing your music. Whenever you bring out new material he always has it sent over here, and sneakily (but unsuccessfully so far!) tries to plan trips home to coincide with dates that you’re playing (he doesn’t know I’m onto him!!!). He always works out to Madness’ music, and has seen you live a few of times, but never in America and not for around 15 years. About three weeks ago one of ! his old school friends, also a massive Madness fan, e-mailed him to mention that you were playing in San Francisco, and within minutes he had purchased tickets, convinced his friend to come from England for the concert, and began a crusade on Facebook to get his Californian friends to come along!!!
I know one of his lifelong dreams has always been to meet the band somewhere, somehow! I know this is a crazy request but I wondered if there is any way you can make that happen for him and his friend when you are here in April??? It would be the most memorable moment of his life….probably would even rank above our wedding but I am cool with that!!!
I know you guys are very busy and probably get requests of this nature all the time. If this is not possible I totally understand, I just wanted to at least let you know how much your music has meant to him, and in turn me, and now our 6 year old son who can even sing “The Liberty of Norton Folgate” start to finish.
I’d really appreciate it if this message is not posted on your site, as he has no clue I’m doing this and I know he looks at the website often. My contact details are provided, if I don’t hear back its cool, at least I look forward to seeing you play in April.
Sincerely
Amy
Sorry I missed you, Amy. Thanks for sending this very nice message. I hope you don’t mind me posting it now. Next time…
