Chris's Cupboard
Hello, it’s Chrissy Boy here. Send me a question and I'll do my best to answer it.
Unless it contains any of the following:
- When/where is the next gig? - Please see the gig section above.
- Can I get your autographs?- This service is not available via the website, all applications must be made in person.
- Can I get backstage passes? - No.
- Will there ever be another 2Tone tour? - This is not very likely, is it?
- Where does Suggs get his sunglasses? – Persol.
- Where do you get your suits/hats/shoes? Gresham Blake, The Saturday Club, Hackett, Christies, Loake, Lock and Co, The British Boot Company.
- When is the “The Madness” album being re released? – I have still not got a clue.
[The questions above will be rinsed, filtered, processed and finally deleted by our new “Timewaster (tm)” interface, leaving me more time to answer the really important ones].
Thanks CB x

Fan since 1979, seeing the band for the first time when you play NYC in May. I read in Before We Was We that on your first trip to NYC you stayed at The Iroquois. Thought it’d be fun to stay there myself. Turns out it’s a 5-star boutique hotel now, the kind that would have never let you in the door. I wonder if there’s a plaque in the lobby?
Dear Charles
hah! that place was lethal. Well, I’ll be blowed..thanks for the info. Hope you enjoy the show
best, CB
I booked tickets to your concert in Murcia, I can’t find the email confirmation please help
Dear Jane
have you got it yet? Try your junk mail folder..if not ask me again and I’ll see whats going on.
CB
Hi,
I would like to go to Madness Concert on 26th June in Murcia Spain, I was wondering if there are any chairs in the middle area of Plaza de Torros?, and also front of Stage, or are they säjust standing options?
Dear monika
I’m sorry I don’t know, try asking the venue
CB
Live in Henley and wonder if Adrian Cox will be playing with you at the Festival .. very excited you’ll be performing there.
Dear Gill
Who is Adrian Cox?
CB
Hi Chris.
I just wanted to thank you. When I was 7 years old I saw the video for ‘House of Fun’ on the TV. It made me dance, laugh and enjoy going crazy! Listening to Madness brings so many memories of all the shenanigans from your music videos, promotional vids, interviews and gigs that you have done plus all the shenanigans from my life to which Madness has been the soundtrack for. You have made my life so much better by reminding me not to take things too seriously and enjoy my time on this earth.
Keep it nutty and thanks again!
Thanks Andy
That’s a nice sentiment I should apply it to myself more often. Thanks for the support..
CB
Hi Chris,
My partner Tony Moran when he was younger had an email exchange with you where you would talk about all different things. One of them was that you were reading a book about Shane Macgowan at the time. You sent him a load of madness merchandise CD’s etc. Its a long shot as it was around 13 years ago now. But I thought you may remember him.
Oh I think he was really funny if it’s the same Tony..he made me laugh a lot. Glad to see he’s settled down..send my regards..
best, CB
Hi Chrissy Man, are there any Madness songs you wanted to be singles that weren’t? And vice versa? I would have loved the band to be brave and slap Primrose Hill out as a single personally…
Dear Terry
“Catch You Crying”. I had a good video idea, too..
best CB
Hi, do you still sell the Madness Beer as we haven’t been able to get any for a while and would like to stock the range again – https://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/beer/country/united-kingdom/madness-brewing-co-gladness thank, Amanda
Dear Amanda
you will have to contact the brewers
best of luck, CB
Hey Chrissy! I’ve been a huge fan since buying One Step Beyond on vinyl at 14 years of age, but my fandom is sorely missing a live performance. Is there any chance you’ll add a date in Chicago in May, please?! It would be so awesome to see you live. Thanks for decades of wonderful music.
John
Sorry John
Not this time, thanks for the support though
best, CB
Allo!
I am one of your biggest fans in the United States. Ohio to be exact. A long time ago I received the original 1985 Zarjazz CD of Mad Not Mad and I really fell in love with the song “White Heat”. Was this song ever performed live?
Thank you,
Thom
Dear Thom
I’m not sure but probably not..we did tour that album though..
CB
Hello!
I’m wondering if you have any support slots for a local original band from Margate for the Dreamland event?
I’ll be happy to send over some of their demos due to be released this summer as well as what’s already out.
Kind regards,
Kiaya Eaton
Dear Kiaya
It’s not likely but what are they called?
CB
Chrissy Boy. I really like much of the merch you sell on the website and buy regularly. Any chance of doing decent reprints of old sleeves? I’d pay for a nice poster of the Grey Day or Shut Up artwork. Pucker, like. Posh hi lees or similar. There was some really cracking art done for them sleeves and I’d love to have a bit framed up on the living room wall.. Cheers. Dave
Dear Dave
it’s up to the merch guys really with things like that..I think we have done some in the past
best, CB
I am now struggling for a gift for my very humble partner. I’m not blowing his guitar or fingers he can play ..can you fix it not in a Jim style for him to play with you all at one of your gigs yours I can not buy any more guitar crap Jacqueline x
sorry – that’s my job Jacquie
CB
Hi CB,
I was very late to the Madness party. I didn’t really get into Madness till ’85. First record of yours I bought was ‘Yesterdays Men’ on 12″. Very good I have to say. Before that I was into Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears and early hip hop. There was only John Peel really playing rap and hip hop on the radio then so it was quite a rarity. Anyway, at this particular time I was off school with the mumps and sooo ill. Fortunately, I recorded a documentary on the Beeb about the history of the music video that was presented by John Peel and John Walters. It was on throughout the night as I recall so was quite unusual in that sense. There was an interview on there with Madness where you all discussed your videos. After watching that again and again while I was ill I became a fan of the band….and then you split up about 6 months later! Anyway, you can see from the interview that you’re all slightly ‘weary’ and could maybe see the writing on the wall? Still, I had good fun picking up your singles at second hand stores and I always made sure I played Madness on the jukebox in pubs, just to ensure you’d never be forgotten. Anyway, i’m wittering on a bit now. I don’t really have any questions to ask…I just wanted to say ‘Thank You’ for making my life just that little bit more pleasurable by simply doing what you do! See Ya!
Dear Tony
it’s nice to hear peoples stories sorry you “missed’ us..
best, CB
Yo Chris,
I did enjoy your book, very funny in a lot of places – your ‘recycling’ idea, Lee’s disappearances in Manhattan, etc. – and well-written. Only needs its two sequels, ‘When We Was We’ and ‘Since We Was We.’
I went to my first-ever ska gig back in December. I didn’t even realize there was a ska scene in Ottawa (albeit a tiny one). I’ve never thoroughly enjoyed a gig from beginning to end all the way before without getting impatient or distracted. One band used trombone as the lead instrument. Wow. The organist in the main band looked identical to Mike in how he played and moved behind the keys. Amazing.
It was posted in that Facebook group that you guys are apparently coming to Boston in April this year. That’s worth the drive for me, just need to renew my passport to get into the States…if I have the courage to travel on my own that far, I’ll try and see you for the very first time after seventeen years of my being a fan. Since you appear to be coming to this continent again, my big thanks to your willing to get on a plane and come over. If I make it, I’ll try and wave or something. I don’t need to bother you for an autograph – you gave me one ten and a half years ago via the old site after I was your 1000th reply.
PS – To my extreme surprise, while I was at a local Mod Nite at a club I attend, the DJs chose to put ‘Our House’ on (speeding it up to C#). I never viewed it as a dancy club song…make any sense? Either way, they played it nine years after my friends attempted to get them to on my birthday haha…thought it was a funny thing to relate. Young adults dancing to ‘Our House’ in an Ottawa nightclub.
Thanks for answering my last question by the way. Happy new year!
JC
Dear Red
ok deal here..you make it to Boston, I’ll put you on the guest list plus one for services beyond the call of duty etc..
best,CB
Hi CB, I’m sending you this email to ask a favour… even though you don’t have a clue who I am. My brother and I are massive fans and have followed the Band since the 70’s. It’s his 50th coming up and I wanted to ask whether Suggs / The Band could autograph one of your merch T-shirts for me to give to him. I know you say autographs can only be requested in person but he lives up in Carlisle, literally miles from you guys.
It would absolutely make his and my day if you could agree to doing this for him.
As soon as I hear from you I’ll get a T-shirt ordered.
Thanks so so much, here’s hoping you can do this for him.
Cheers CB,
Love Caroline xx
Dear Caroline
We were in Carlisle last year!..hmm. I’ll pass this on to the team
CB
I love yous guys yous are my world, I’m 49 and just became a Granda and was wondering if any of the Madness crew were lucky enough to have grandchildren?!
Dear Micky
I’ve got 4 er Thommo has a few, Suggs has 2 [twins] I hear Chas has a grandchild too..lovely
CB
Hi Chris,
My 8 year old son is a huge Madness fan. I’d like to get him a t shirt but can only see adult sizes! Any plans to do something for kids? Cheers
Dear Frances
Get a small, then a very hot wash..No plans at the moment sorry X
CB
Hi, loving your work.
I’m collecting studio albums / compilations / EPs, basically if it’s on 12″ 33rpm vinyl then I want it, I have all but 4 , 3 are easy to find but there is one that gets me caught out.
“Wonderful” has it ever or are there plans on releasing it on vinyl, I’m doing well, got the dangermen session, oui oui, I do like to be b-side the a-side, Folgate,
Any info would be amazing.
Cheers
Dan
Dear Mad Dan
Good question..I think we are releasing a lot of old stuff on vinyl this year.

Hey Chris,
Greetings from the east coast of the U.S.! Just wanted to write a quick note to let my favorite band know how much I’ve enjoyed their music and antics over the years. Growing up in the U.S. we had two radio stations to listen to: one played rock(AC/DC, etc) and the other played classic rock (The Doors, etc). What variety! I’ll never forget when MTV finally arrived and I heard (and saw) One Step Beyond for the first time. Absolutely blew me away and instantly made me a Madness fan. Eventually I found a record store near me that had the Complete Madness record and the rest is history. I only wish you guys had been bigger in the states, never understood why you weren’t. Personally, I blame our current president. He’s a dick, and most certainly NOT a Madness fan! Anyway, thanks for all the great music and fun over the years. You guys and your music never fails to make this 51 year old feel 21 again. Keep it up!
Josh Passman
Dear Josh
What’s wrong with AC/Dc dude, they rock. However I would like to thank you for your support. I think we were unable to work and work in the US like some other bands. 2 weeks and we’d be exhausted haha. Trump for 2020 arghh. He’ll win!
best, CB
Is it true that Madness will perform on Feb, 12th, 2020 at club Schräglage im Stuttgart, Germany?
Dear Michael
Indeed it is…not.. we will not be there – do not go
danke, CB
Do you think you will ever do durham cricket ground again by far the best i have been to and i have been to a few dont like these racecourse gigs are they really fans
Dear David
Oh yeah right the cricket mob are far more appreciative of our talents.
CB
Dear David
Well, a lot of Thommos stories should be filed under fiction…
best, CB
Hello, my name is Bazil Figura, I’m a 61-year-old Training and Development Officer who works for a company in Norwich, I have grown up listening to Madness and the music has never lost its appeal.
The reason I am writing to you is in the hope you may be able to help me, allow me to explain;
I have been a widower for just over four years, I lost my beloved wife in 2015 to a very aggressive brain tumor, Marie was first diagnosed in 2012 and underwent three major operations between 2012 and 2015, unfortunately the last operation was too much on her failing body and she never recovered from the operation.
The staff at Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge were brilliant, from the consultants, the surgeons, the nurses even down to the admin staff who arranged my stay on site during the long days and nights at my wife’s bedside at the hospital, but the group who helped in more ways than I can ever be thankful for were the Macmillan nurses.
They not only cared for my wife during her end of her life but they provided vital support for myself and the family as they understood those who are left behind have their own battles to fight; grief, sadness, acceptance and the practicalities of being alone and the expectations for being able to cope.
I will forever be in the debt for the time, kindness, understanding and help they gave to my family.
To help say thank you in a practical way to these brilliant and beautiful people I have signed up for Ride London 2020 and will be riding for Team Macmillan, in order to secure a coveted place, I have pledged to raise a minimum of £600.
In order to achieve my promise of £600 sponsorship I have come up with what I think is a clever way of fund raising – a charity auction of celebrity items.
So, I am writing to stars of stage, screen and TV, politicians, lords and ladies, sporting hero’s, icons of business and industry if fact as many people as I can think of. I realize not everyone will reply but if only 50% do then I’ll be on my way to achieving my goal
This is why I am writing to wonderful people like yourselves asking you to donate something that can be auctioned off, it can be absolutely anything, it could be a signed book or script, framed photo, an item of clothing – in fact anything that might raise interest. The bigger and more interesting or unusual the better.
I cannot think of a more iconic band who might be able to help me in some way, I know you must get inundated with requests such as this but in the hope you can help me achieve my goal I would be a fool not to approach you and ask for your kindness and help.
I will be getting in contact with my local commercial radio station to arrange the auction as they can give me enough media exposure to maximize my effort to hit my target.
So please, if you can help by donating something, anything that is signed or autographed that can be sold at auction you will be helping some very special people, special to me and my family for the kindness, compassion and support they gave when we needed it the most and special to the people they look after giving the exceptional care which is needed and appreciated by all.
I have also included the detail of my justgiving page where if you wish you can donate directly to my target. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Bazil-FiguraRideLondon2020
On behalf of my late wife, my family and myself thank you for taking the time to read my letter.
Kind regards
Dear Bazil
I’m sorry to hear about your wife, that’s very sad. I have passed this on and I hope it’s not too late to help you raise some money for such a worthy cause.

Why does it keep deleting my questions straight away? Seems like TM isn’t that slow lol
Dear Bob

Oh also, I’m looking to release a single(ie Rockin in a flat and Tom hawk) I was wondering, and I know this is a bit hopeful, if I got some mixes down could I do a one single deal with lucky seven records?
Dear Addi…

Can I get The liberty of norton folgate, oui oui si si ja ja da da and cant touch us now on vinyl? I have every look from one step beyond to mad stock, and every single from the prince to waiting for the ghost-train. I really want to finish my collection, I was at your dunstall park gig and you were the best band I have ever seen!
Dear Addison [great name!]
That’s very kind of you to collect all our stuff. I don’t know where you can get vinyl copies but don’t spend too much.

Presale ticket code for gig in Oakland 2020.
Dear Paul
What is all this code stuff buddy?
best, CB
Hey Chris. I was wondering if you remember a DC show at the Bayou in 1980. We hung out after (perhaps the fact that I was with a hot dutch girl had something to do with it). USA beat Russia in the Olympics. And I gave you my license plate cause you said you collected them. In any event, come play DC and let’s do it again (although the dutch girl isn’t as hot anymore).
Dear Hary
Firstly my lawyer said to say that I have no recollection of that girl and if I do…er… well then I never so much as touched her. I remember the licence plate, I put it on my car when I got back – did you get the speeding tickets? Send my regards to whatsername, she had her chance and she blew it big time. Sorry we are coming to DC buddy. If you can make to one of the other shows let me know..
best, CB
Hi… excited to buy tickets for Boston… is there a presale for that venue? Code? can’t find anything…. don’t want to miss out… got friends coming from all over to see you there! xoxo
Dear Julie
Code? We don’t need no stinkin code!
CB
Hello, My name is Frank O’Donoghue. I was at your gig in Limerick. Fantastic!!!! Would you (Madness) be available for a 60th Birthday party in Dromoland Castle on 17 July 2020? Oh yeah, how much would it cost if you (plural) happened to be available. Cheers
Dear Frank

CB
Thank you , thank you, thank you for coming back to the states. I’ll be buying tickets to the Boston show. My family took our first ever international holiday to see you in Cardiff last year and it was one of our best experiences ever. We love you guys and are so happy to have you in the US. Was I supposed to ask a question?….. Which band members are on Santa’s naughty list?
Dear Poly

Hi Chris,
First of all, loved the House of Fun, can’t wait for next year.
Do you know why the ‘Can’t touch us now’ album has disappeared off Amazon Music?
Thanks
Dear Ste

Do you sell a sheet music book with all of your songs? My partner plays the piano and is a HUGE fan!
I have only found websites that sell individual sheet music pages. It would be nice to have it in a book….

Looking forward to your visit to Boston in May 2020. Was wondering if you could bring several kegs of each of your beers for us to try? Or at least sell some six packs at the merchandise desk?
Dear Mike
I don’t think we can fit it in our luggage, there is a strict allowance..
best, CB
Dear Chris,
What a jam packed 40XL of a year , topped off by a teaser of new material. In fitting with past, present and future themes, I would dearly love you to finally record sunshine voice in mash up of old and new tunes. God knows I’ve been banging on about this particular song on various media platforms for eons!! Possible?
Looking forward to new stuff next year.
Have a cracker of a Christmas and love to you all and all the mad heads out there.
Regards Eric
Ps. As your last correspondent highlighted , I too was in a band in the mid naughties- a scaled down ska band called Fullstop. We did a mixture of originals and covers Inc the prince, and in our own little way did ok supporting the Beat in Manchester in 2004 and getting Horace Panter guesting on bass at a one off gig in Coventry. This proved how democratic and real the 2tone movement was in connecting with the people. If you have time or inclination you can check out the band on my YouTube site along with my solo non ska songs under my name Eric Coudrill
Dear Eric
I will do that asap..just did…thumbs up!
CB
Buongiorno CB, I think it’s time to celebrate XL with a special night of Madness and orchestra in one of the best theater of the Planet! Arena di Verona is ready to welcome you all as soon as you can (Barzo Verona model piano in ‘My girl’ was a prelude). Thanks for all we received and given we are so proud to live in Madness!
dear Pierpaolo
Grazie
CB
Good Afternoon,
This is a random question. My name is Tom from a pub called the Royal in Tankerton. Suggs is a regular in here when he visits Whitstable, Just wondering if we were to do a one off event here would you be interested and how much would you charge.
Just out of curiosity more so, to see it it would be fee sable.
Thanks,
Tom
Dear Tom
Next time he’s in, ask him..
CB
Hello you lot!
I hope you have recovered from the house of fun weekender by now. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, but there is always the next/last year!!
A random question for you this time. Long story short I proposed to my girlfriend at the last HOF to which she luckily said yes during your set then decided to surf a wheelie bin shouting at everyone how we are engaged.
We went to look at a venue today in cornwall and got chatting to which the person showing us the place (polhawn fort near millbrook) commented that one of the members got married there.
Can you confirm or deny that this is true? As its bugging the hell out of me if it’s true or not!
Cheers n gone as we say.
Dave
Dear David
If you can find out which member it was, that would help. I would say fake news but maybe they didn’t tell me.
best of luck, CB
I’m sure you get this question all the time but I just noticed you will be touring in America in May… I notice you’re not playing in LA or San Diego… Do you think you guys will add dates and make that happen? I do not wanna miss you guys this time around and I have to get a ticket to another area I will… Thank you
Dear Dave
all I can say is have faith..wait till March dude and all will be revealed re LA
CB
Hi Chris,
Any reason why Can’t Touch Us Now and Waiting for the Ghost Train have disappeared off Spotify and i Player, and if they will be coming back. I also wondered how these streaming services worked for a band which a rich back catalogue like Madness – do you get more exposure/sales as more people start to use streaming services than physical copies?
Dear Steve
The “team’ are working on this 24/7, are they back on yet?
CB
Hi Chris, I’ve seen you live six times now and I’ve loved it every time. Keep up the excellent work! My question to you is, what is your favourite song to perform live?
Dear Greg
The last song of the set lolz
best, CB
Hi people from Madness,
We are very very much looking forward to your show in Amsterdam next week.
Just because the Rocksteady Beat of Madness is SUPER !
We are the only Dutch Madness tribute band of Holland.
And trying to get as close as possible to your sound.
As real diehard fans it is an honour to play your music.
Every rehearsal is a party.
We have a horn section (baritonsax & tenorsax) that’s One Step Beyond.
Trying to get the same feel in your songs and add a personal touch of our own to it.
It would be lovely to arrange a meat & great with you guys.
And, maybe…., to jam a bit with the band.
C U soon,
Bernhard Jobsen
Bariton Sax
Dear Bernhard
Is there any film of your band on youtube or whatever. What are they called? “Meet and Greet”…hmmm
CB

CB
Will we see a new album by the end of the year?
Dear Callum
Not likely at this point..
CB
Hello Chrissyboy. Very nearly had my Madness themed pinball machine at H.O.F this year but it wasn’t quite ready. You may have some stuff coming your way via management to sign to go on it ready for next year, they are very keen to see it in the flesh. Fancy a go on it when it’s done ?!
Dear Wayner
They were a fiddle lolz. See you next year!
CB
Hi Chris.
With the new single, the International Madness Community fans (I’m sure it exists..) become crazy : we’re all hope for a a new album. My question is simple : if it’s on a way , will you make a deluxe boxset availaible on the Madshop like you’ve done from the previous albums (with bsides, and why not a DVD/bluray of the concerts filmed by Sky Art). I hope, we hope, now it’s up to you, Nutty Boys!! All the best from France! Steve
Dear Steve
Oh..If only we could do all that!
Best, CB
Hiya Chris I hear you & the boys have had another cracking HOF Wkender unfortunately I couldn’t make it this year but I have been to 7 of these and have throughly enjoyed seeing my Idol’s.
But I hear that 2020 will be your last HOF could you please tell me why ?
Dear Wayne
I’m still reeling with shock myself. 10 years is a long time, though. We’ll probably do a “come back” in a few years but I am getting on…
CB
Hi Chris,
Shouldve asked in the cinema yesterday!
Will the Kenwood House DVD be available to purchase.
It was a fantastic watch.
Dear Steve
There are a few things to sort out but hopefully in the New Year it will be available.
CB
Hi chris!
We’re at the madness butlins weekend and I was just wondering if I could make it extra special and have my dad meet the guys. He’s been in a ska tribute band and has been supporting you for years. He’s rubbed off his love of Madness onto me and my brother as well!! Our family has been through a difficult time recently and we’re using this weekend as a way to forget about it. Please 🙂
I’m sorry I only just saw this. I was quite busy at Butlins and I didn’t really look in my cupboard. I met a lot of nice people, maybe I met your Dad?
Best CB
Will Carl ever come back to the band been a big fan since you started …..keep going
Dear Lee
It’s not very likely.
