Hello, it’s Chrissy Boy here. Send me a question and I'll do my best to answer it.

Unless it contains any of the following:

  1. When/where is the next gig? - Please see the gig section above.
  2. Can I get your autographs?- This service is not available via the website, all applications must be made in person.
  3. Can I get backstage passes? - No.
  4. Will there ever be another 2Tone tour? - This is not very likely, is it?
  5. Where does Suggs get his sunglasses? – Persol.
  6. Where do you get your suits/hats/shoes? Gresham Blake, The Saturday Club, Hackett, Christies, Loake, Lock and Co, The British Boot Company.
  7. When is the “The Madness” album being re released? – I have still not got a clue.

[The questions above will be rinsed, filtered, processed and finally deleted by our new “Timewaster (tm)” interface, leaving me more time to answer the really important ones].

Thanks CB x

Hope you’re all staying safe amongst this madness (pun intended), just wanted to reach out and thank you and the band for all your brilliant music providing myself and many many others support and comfort during this time ❤️
Much love

Hello,
I have been in love with you guys since i was a child. I was flying to Punk Rock Bowling to see you for the first time. Do you know if you will do the rescheduled date? I dont want to pay all this money again to go and not see you guys.

Chrissy Boy, now that you are coming back to the US for a very abbreviated tour, how do I get your publicist to reply to my media request to promote your Stateside show?
Cheers.
PS – Loved hanging with you and the Nutty Boys after the San Diego 2012 gig at Humphreys.

How can I listen/buy the track Waiting for the ghost train (in belgium) : deezer/spotify/apple -> not to be listen-to/buy with buying a full best-of-album….

Howdy Chrissy Boy! I’ll be seeing you lads in NYC per my 50th birthday. Excited!! Seeing Madness before I croak is on my bucket list. Any chance of saying hello at the show so that I can make an application in person for an autograph? This would make my millenium!! If so then I might just have to bring some beer from my brewery (Dogfish Head) for you lads to enjoy on the bus. I am hoping that your beer will be in tow as well as i’d love to try it. Well, time for me to start praying for a positive response accordingly. Thank you, Chrissy Boy! Much love!!!

Dear Chris
Looks like we will not be with you till 2021, try not to croak until then buddy.
best, CB

Helllo !
Will all the California dates be cancelled due to coronovirus? Or will they still happen ?
Also, will you be attending the future fall date for Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas ?
Hope to see you in the states soon : )

If it does I will be away. In Italy! so hmm maybe my flight will get cancelled – again! If so, I will be there.. Does that make sense? Unless the event gets cancelled.

hi cb where do i start well what another great year for yourself and the band in 2019 with the book. Before we was we, i was there at rough trade and must say the band took time to not only to sign the book but to sign memorabilla for us fans that turned up and with the gig at the electric ballroom and at the roundhouse i was there to see you guys you gave us fans two gigs that we will never forget from my first in 1979 at the lyceum and bad manners were the back up band. I am going to the dublin castle on the 7th april as i bid over 100 pounds at madchat charity gig on 7th March for a ticket as money goes to charity. Is there a chance when i get the paperback book signed on the night i can get a photo with me and the band , all the best for 2020 cb and the band thanks lee

Hi Chris, you have without doubt written some of the greatest tunes spanning the whole Madness 40 years, my question is do you find that the ideas for songs come to you as easy now, as they did when you started out? Thanks Pete

Dear Peter
I don’t write lyrics just tunes and they come to me as I walk down the street a lot of the time. It just happens.

Hi Chris
Have you any tour dates for Scotland this year or next ?
Just buried my mate and he absolutely loved you guys
Would be fitting to see you one one more time up here for him
Thanks
Derek

Dear Derek
I don’t usually say this but we will be in Scotland later on in the year and you can see us one more time for him. Stay in touch.
sorry for your loss, CB X

Hi there. We are a charity in Perth called Ad-Lib Arts and we provide affordable drama and musical theatre classes with our ‘Arts for All’ ethos. We will be performing ‘Our House’ the musical in June at Perth College Theatre. The cast is made up of adults and youths. The adults are loving re-living their youth with your music and the youths are loving discovering your music. I think it’s the happiest cast I have ever Directed. We’re holding a fundraiser and wondered if you’d be willing to give us a signed photo to auction at our event on 20th March. If that’s not something you do, I totally understand. We’ll still love you all the same. The first dance at my wedding was ‘It Must Be Love’ and I’m still married 25 years later so it goes to show that song will always be magic. Huge thanks.

Dear Vicky
That sounds really great, what a lovely charity you’ve got there. I hope it goes well, I’d love to see it if you post it on Youtube or something.
I could try and get a link on our website or at least my Twitter etc. Send my regards and best wishes to the cast, young and old.. I’ll try and get a photo together and sent asap.
best, CB

Hi Chris
Please say hello to Paul Catlin for me.
He’s a top bloke. I’m coming down to Camden this December for my 50th and will be hoping to meet the guy for the first time. Ta.

Dear John
er..so you’ve never met him, what’s the connection? Just asking for a friend. I don’t see him much these days..

Hi Chris ! I wanted to buy a Limited Edition Madness Harrington Jacket from the main site but sold out in large. Any chance that the site will re-stock them? Cheers Chris

Hi there, great post. Could you help me with a question I have? Are nitro powered rc cars really that much better than electric ones? It seems like the gas ones are more expensive but not much better. My brother was telling me to only even consider a gas car. Thanks for your help.

Dear Randall
I don’t know anything about RC cars but in the real world I just got a Tesla. Pretty good but the windscreen is a bit weak. I won’t buy a gas car again, for sure.

Dear Chrissy Boy,
Thank you so much for your wonderful music and spreading the joy. Saw the band twice last year, (dream come true), and you were just amazing. Great music and graphics. The roundhouse gig was stunningly atmospheric. Thank you also for Drip Fed Fred live. I did not think in a million years I would be lucky enough to see you perform & play it live. A wonderful shock. I love the fact the band has in the past highlighted with dignity homeless hostels, is there anything we as fans can do as a collective to support these vital facilities? Does the band have a fundraiser or something we can donate into? I tried looking but would appreciate your view. If you do get a chance to see this then Thank you for your time. Wishing you all the very best for now and in the future, Kindest regards, Sandra x ps What is the cure for Madnessitis the insanely post gig feel good factor that goes on for months…..

Dear Sandra
Thanks for your support! We don’t have a general fund raising page but we sometimes raise money for charity in some way or another, for example a few years ago I suggested a paying guest list and then the band decide where it goes to.

Hello Dear Chris !
I’m so disappointed as I’ve just received a message that Madness Live in Dubai next thursday is postponed ! I’m understanding reason for sure but so sad not to see you here ! Is there any luck to see you here before end of june ? Should i Have to go back to Europe to see you there ? All the Best for You all and please continue to make our life happy ! Warm Regards, Francois

Dear Francois
I’m really sorry to you and all other ticket holders. We rarely cancel shows. This was the promoters decision, probably Corona®
We will re schedule the show asap but it may not be until much later in the year.
yours CB

Dear Chris,
I noticed when looking at coverage of your walk of fame award that you and Lee weren’t there but Carl was.
Is Carl back? Are you and Lee still in?
All the best.

Dear CCC
No.
Yes.
[Thommo in Dubai already, he has been in Bali for a month, then flew to Dubai. Gig cancelled!]
CB

Will there a House of common this year you seem to be adding dates slowly.
I see your playing at the Sjock Festival. Not quite the Ska type festival for you to play at is it.

Dear Micheal
No problemo..we ain’t just a “Ska”band. Just one of the many facets of our style. Is “Our House” ska? Mind you that festival haha lolz get your drift..I’m sure we won’t dissapoint…
CB

Hiya,
I grew up listening to Madness and play the piano to a high standard. I want to start learning bass and would love to know a few things about Mark’s bass setup as he has such a wicked tone.

What strings does he use?
Are any of the electronics/pickups upgraded in his p bass?

Thank you 🙂 +Looking forward to seeing you with my family @Westonbirt soon!

Dear Victor
[Great name, by the way].

I emailed the great man and this is what he had to say; [he knows a lot more about his stuff than I do!]

“Hello,

The basses I have, at the moment, don’t have any particular changes to the pick-ups. Although, I was lucky enough to get one set of pick-ups wound to
the same spec as my vintage Fenders – right down to using the same of type wire. (ThIs is very nerdy).

The only advice I could give is match the sound of your bass to the type of music you want to play. If it’s heavy metal and you’re playing with pick or you’re playing Motown with your fingers – find a bass that fits.

Which brings us on to strings. I’d say the same: find a set that suits what you are doing. I started out playing, and used for many years, Rotosound Swing Bass, roundwound strings (45-105). These were bright and recorded really well. As I’ve got older, I’ve wanted a slightly lighter feel so I now use the Fender roundwound strings (7250M). Still 45-105 but they just feel lighter. This must be the way there are made?

For certain things, I use flatwound strings: La Bella ‘Deep Talkin’ Bass’. These are the strings that James Jameson used on all of the Motown records. And D’Addario ECB84 Flatwound Chromes (40-100). Both are great.

I’ve recently got into pedals. Don’t get me started on pedals – we could be here all day”….

Hello there, thanks for the post. I have a question though. I have my wedding planned for a few months from now. I’m getting really worried about the coronavirus though. If you were me, would you delay your wedding and see what happens?

Dear Bettyann
Well..I’d get the groom checked for any trace of Corona® and while you’re at it anything else. Then go ahead asuuming he checks out ok.

Chris I went To the roundhouse with my dad on the 15th it was great I’m a bass player I’d love to play with you guys and especially bedders so he can show me a few techniques and some advice

Dear Luca
See the above answer for a few notes on strings and such. Advice? hmm listen to great basslines and learn from them. Keep at it and you don’t have to read music, by the way.

Hi Chrissy Boy,
turns out my wife and I both went to the same Madness gig in Leeds before we knew each other! Long story short, we had It Must Be Love played at our wedding and anniversary is 27th March. I wondered if you could possibly do a quick video congratulations to her? No worries if not possible but her name’s Shelley if you can possibly help. Happy to donate to a charity of your choice as it’d mean a lot to a wonderful lady.

Hope that’s ok

Thanks

Simon

Dear Simon
I’m sorry we can’t do this, as I will not see the boys for a while. Congratuations and best wishes, though
CB

Chrissy Boy,
Great to see your still answering/responding to questions! Looking forward to the US shows…….saves me a trip to the UK, although I’m sure the experience would be well worth the frisk at the airport. Any chance Chas will come along for the ride? Certainly miss the bloke!

Hi Chris. Have you got any plans to cover another song apart from Living On A Prayer on your shows this year ? Thanks for all of these “Mad” years, by the way, One Step Beyond was the first album I ever bought. Cheers, Paul.

Hey, guys!

We’re a young family of Dima and Katya from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. We’ve been devoted fans of yours for many years and this year decided to spend our honeymoon in Amsterdam enjoying your concert.
Being inspired by your music we’re led by the principles of honesty, kindness, mutual support and active social position, which form the fundamental positive outlook for us. This allows us to set a good example of a young family to many guys from our company.

February 23 happens to be my wife’s birthday
I’m not quite sure if it’s appropriate enough to ask you about it, as we have never met with you in person, but I’d dare to ask if there is a tiny chance that you could record a short video greeting card for her? Katerina would be the happiest birthday girl on Earth if you could kindly do it!

Dear Dmitry
How lovely! please wish your lovely wife Katerina a happy birthday from me. Can’t do video messages sorry

Hey Chris,

Red here again. Responding to your last reply about making it to Boston…
I didn’t get a ticket to Boston. But I got one to New York and I’m getting my passport submitted next week. I’ll see you at the Manhatten centre or whatever it was called, I’ll figure it out, unlike Lee’s issues in Manhatten back in 1980…anyways, the ticket is purchased.
If you do put me on the guest list as you offered, that would be amazing. Either way, seeing you in real life will be a pretty awesome milestone in my life. Whatever you do, thank you very much, and much love and music. If I could I’d bring my professional camera and flash, but I know that probably isn’t allowed in a venue, so that’ll be fine.
I’ll see you in May. In Manhatten. Not Boston, but the Big Apple. I’ll ensure to give my thanks to each of you for indirectly teaching me bass, guitar, piano and drums over the years, respectively.
Red

Dear Red
Hey hope you make it and I’ll sort you out plus one – or more. Message me on here nearer the date, so I don’t forget!
CB

Dear Paul
Sorry about this but it got cancelled. Not up to us, it was the venue. I hope you didn’t fly there just to see us. If you did, message me on here and I’ll sort you something out for a UK show of your choice.
CB

Hi Chris!
I sent you an email the day I bought our tickets for your New York show, but it looks like you didn’t receive it. I just wanted to thank you and the band so much for coming to the US! I have been waiting since 1982, and I’m so happy I can take my family to see the greatest band ever! (The last time you were here, I couldn’t go because my daughter had just been born!) Thank you for all the music, and being the soundtrack to my life! See you in May!

Hi Chris. Any chance of a shout out for my first photography exhibition: ‘We Are The Mods!’ please?? I’m an amateur photographer taking a bit of a leap of faith. It’s at Picnic Cafe, Buttermarket, Reading and runs til April. More info and pics here: https://travelswithlenses.co.uk/ Cheers, Rhiannon

How can we get a song to you that we think is perfect for you? Worked with Mickie Most at RAK in the 90’s who produced, recorded and published some of our material. Please let me know the best way to get it to you, thanks.

Is it true you released lovestruck and johnny the horse on vinyl? Also you guys shouldve done a hard copy of bullingdon boys but nvm…
P.S i noticed cant touch us now isnt listed on the website…. Maybe i dreamt it existed…
P.P.S is woody actually an official member of the band?

ive followed you all since i was 3 born in 74 and have loved every single moment from the grey casette my uncle gave me at that age (absolutely) but ive just tried to book tickets for york and its an absolute pisstake regarding the ticket price, we went as a family at hardwick hall me my wife and 2 teenagers were hooked but we will have to end it there tickets are far to expensive for the working man.

Dear Colin
I looked on

https://www.york-festival.com/line-up/

and they are £39.50 early bird £45 did you go to viagogo or one of those sites? Looks like they charge £72 which is taking the pi**. I’m sorry about this. It makes me mad that a booking fee is added to EACH ticket, which is a total racket too.
BEST, CB

Hi Chris,
Hope you and the band are well, I noticed that the official music videos for Mr Apples and Can’t Touch Us Now have disappeared off youtube and was wondering if you might have any idea why. The album had also gone from Spotify and Apple Music recently too but thankfully it’s back now.
Also, thank you for the best music over the years, Madness are my favourite band, I hope to see you live again this year!

So glad to see you guys coming across the pond and I see you’ve got loads of summer dates, so I realize you lot got your calendar full. And this is a big ask, but one can only dream… I’ve been a fan since I was a lad and I ain’t a no more as I approach the mid century mark, but I’ve never seen you guys live and I’m a bigger fan now than ever and surely there are hoards more like me in the US. Is there anyway you guys could add a date or two, particular for those of living in the hellish Bible Belt of the southeast? Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, Columbia, SC, or Charleston, SC (I highly recommend the latter if you’ve never been, as it’s got some history and beaches and it ain’t far from me.) I’d even offer you guys my partner’s beach house in N. Carolina at Cape Hatteras, but not many places to play there and it may be rented already. But a show or two in the southeastern US would be most welcomed. I wish all the best on your tour and thank you guys for so much great music over the years. Lastly, I am grateful to see some Madness DVD’s finally available and I would encourage to record more shows and release them as well, particularly with varied setlists (and that’s no complaint, just being a long time fan, I love to see/hear you guys perform some of the rarer material that doesn’t get played too often.)
Cheers and thank you for taking the time to read this! ~ Peace & Love, Chad

Is it possible, to arrange a quick telephone call to say happy 50th birthday, to my wife, who is a life time fan of Madness and if so, how much.
Many thanks in advance

Dear Chrissy Boy Foreman,

It was great meeting you again at Newcastle Races last year, at “the 5 a-side centre”. Apologies for disgracing myself by helping myself to the crew’s food. I was inebriated, dazed, confused and hungry.

Have you considered “Much Madness” as an album or Tour name? Because, as you’re aware, “Much Madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye”. All the best.
